Annual fundraiser and hockey fan Mark Barrow will once again be running the Virgin London Marathon in full Braehead Clan Ice Hockey kit.
As a thank you to the organisation he will be wearing HPA chairman Chris Franks home jersey kindly donated by his sponsor Dizzyfish Ltd.
As many of you know Mark is a keen runner and has many finishers medals on display and has complemented these races and fundraising efforts with other endurance races, 24 hour treadmill runs and charity evenings for Children with Cancer UK. The most recent of these events was held in David Lloyd (Glasgow West End) raising nearly £3000 with the help of his family, friends and the coach, players and partners from Braehead Clan. The night included live music, a conveyor belt of comedy, raffle, silent auction with Scottish comedy star Sanjeev Kohli acting as the MC along side Mark. In the past 4 years Mark has raised over £12,000.
Mark says ”nights like last Friday provide me with the opportunity to thank those who have supported me over the past few years whilst still raising money for Children with Cancer UK. It was a huge success and everyone seemed to have a great time with the entertainment on offer”.
With the start line of London fast approaching Mark looked at ways to address an ongoing (minor) ankle injury and the race itself deciding to put on the pads, helmet and gloves running the 26.2 mile course at a very steady pace to help raise more money for charity.
Mark concludes “it would be great to get my tweets trending worldwide with hockey players and fans through out the world showing how supportive the hockey community can be regardless of the country you reside or the team you support. I would like to thank Chris Frank, HPA, the Braehead Clan Ice Hockey Franchise, Dizzyfish Ltd, Children with Cancer UK for all the support they give and of course my family and friends. Without whom none of my ideas would ever be supported”
